1. Mixmaster Morris
He topped the Mixcloud Chillout chart last year and is back at number one again with his ambient mixes, often recorded live at venues around the world. According to Mixmaster Morris, chillout music is “exactly what you need if you have a busy and stressful life”. If you want to catch him live, he has residencies at Big Chill Bar, Gowlett, Synergy and Spiritland, and is a resident DJ at Glastonbury, New Healing & Shambala Festival.
2. Chris Coco
Chris Coco is a producer, DJ, musician, broadcaster and journalist. He describes himself as a multifunctional renaissance man. He has been working as a DJ since the acid house explosion of the late 80s, has edited DJ magazine, and has worked for BBC Radio 1 on the after hours show The Blue Room. He has made artist albums for Warp and Distinctive Records plus compilations for Playboy, Ministry of Sound, EMI Classical and Trojan Records. He broadcasts and syndicates Melodica, his weekly radio show, out of his studio/office in London where he also runs a label.
3. Low Light Mixes
From Cedarburg, Wi in the US, Low Light creates mixes that are ambient and atmospheric. Each mix usually has a theme, ‘sleep music’, ‘autumn’, ‘piano’, ‘stargazing’, ‘the sea’, ‘sci-fi’, and so on. The sounds include modern classical, field recordings, dub, drone, glitch, idm, electronic, instrumental, space, experimental and of course ambient. Low Light has run his own mix blog since 2006 and is fast becoming the go to for mood music.
4. Guido’s Lounge Cafe
From Geleen in the Netherlands, we bring you one of the Best Ambient/Chillout Radio Shows of 2015 – as recognised in our Mixcloud Online Radio Awards. According to the Guido’s Lounge Cafe page, ‘Music doesn’t always have to have words to touch the heart. Sometimes just a melody can take you places you can only dream of.’ Enjoy shows around a series of themes including ‘Love and Care’, ‘Porcelain’, and ‘In Flight’.
5. Quiet Music
Quietmusic is a 3 hour-long weekly radio show that features an eclectic and mellow mix of jazz, ambient textures, electronic and acoustic instrumentals, and vocal ballads. It began in 1994 and aired for over 17 years at KYOT-FM in Phoenix; it was also syndicated on nearly 100 stations across North America from 2000-2009. The show continues because of financial support from its online listeners.
