4th of july(ONEWORD)-02

For our American listeners today is a special day. The 4th of July celebrates the United States’ Declaration of Independence from the United Kingdom, and as the national day-off it’s a good excuse to throw a party, have a barbeque, set off some fireworks and listen to some good music. To help with that last bit, we’ve chosen some of the freshest Cloudcasts from Mixcloud’s most popular US users.

Fort Knox: Omegaman Presents Funk the World 15

A good place to start is in the great nation’s capital, with renegade funk and soul label Fort Knox Recordings, whose stated mission is to “explore the funkier side of music from all genres around the world.” Marc Scully, AKA Omegaman, presents their latest offering, Funk the World 15.

Headphone Commute: Lee Anthony Norris Mix

Next up is Headphone Commute, an independent resource of candid words on electronic, experimental and instrumental music. The mysterious HC writes the blog of the same name and invites guests to provide the music, with this week’s mix coming from Lee Anthony Norris; better known as Metamatics.

Diplo and Friends: DJ Snake and Pelican Fly

Mississippi-born Wesley Pentz is probably better known to you as Diplo; the irrepressible super producer, Mad Decent label boss and smart-dressed man. His Saturday night show on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra racks up the hits, so we had to feature the last one, which includes mixes from DJ Snake and Pelican Fly (DJ Slow).

Brooklyn Radio: DJ Chicken George Peddlin’ 45s Mix No.1

Originating on UCLAradio.com, Post-Rock Paper Scissors ran to over 80 shows of unsurprisingly post-rock music and all things tangentially related. This episode is the first of a two-part departure from the norm, in that it is “a depressingly sexy mix for late-night feels”.

Quietmusic: June 30 Hour 2 Excerpt

From 1994 to 2011 on KYOT-FM in Phoenix, Arizona ran Nick Francis’ weekly Quietmusic radio show, which stayed true to its title by playing an eclectic and mellow blend of jazz, new age, ambient, electronic, acoustic, and vocal ballads. The show lives on through weekly uploads, with this excerpt from the the second hour of a late June show featuring the likes of Eva Cassidy, Air, Marc Cohn and David Sanborn.

Lowlight: Infinite Ambient

Sticking with music of an ambient nature, the Low Light Mixes blog has used Mixcloud to showcase five year’s worth of mixes, gaining a lot of fans in the process. The most recent of which disposes with the usual themes, as creator Dave from Wisconsin says “there’s no special theme or concept other than these cuts are all excellent ambient tunes.”

Marchus Schultz: Global DJ Broadcast June 27 Ibiza Summer Sessions

From bedroom bloggers to one of the busiest DJs in the world, from Germany but residing in Miami, honorary-American Markus Schulz’s Global DJ Broadcast radio show has been streaming on the site for several years now. The June 27th show comes from his Ibiza Summer Sessions with a Gai Barone guest mix.
