A good place to start is in the great nation’s capital, with renegade funk and soul label Fort Knox Recordings, whose stated mission is to “explore the funkier side of music from all genres around the world.” Marc Scully, AKA Omegaman, presents their latest offering, Funk the World 15.

Headphone Commute: Lee Anthony Norris Mix

Mississippi-born Wesley Pentz is probably better known to you as Diplo; the irrepressible super producer, Mad Decent label boss and smart-dressed man. His Saturday night show on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra racks up the hits, so we had to feature the last one, which includes mixes from DJ Snake and Pelican Fly (DJ Slow).

Brooklyn Radio: DJ Chicken George Peddlin’ 45s Mix No.1

Launched in the summer of 2006, Brooklyn Radio was developed as an alternative to the stagnant commercial and satellite radio formats. This week’s show marks the installment in a series of an all vinyl 45s Jazztronica mixes with DJ Chicken George.

Originating on UCLAradio.com, Post-Rock Paper Scissors ran to over 80 shows of unsurprisingly post-rock music and all things tangentially related. This episode is the first of a two-part departure from the norm, in that it is “a depressingly sexy mix for late-night feels”.

Quietmusic: June 30 Hour 2 Excerpt

From 1994 to 2011 on KYOT-FM in Phoenix, Arizona ran Nick Francis’ weekly Quietmusic radio show, which stayed true to its title by playing an eclectic and mellow blend of jazz, new age, ambient, electronic, acoustic, and vocal ballads. The show lives on through weekly uploads, with this excerpt from the the second hour of a late June show featuring the likes of Eva Cassidy, Air, Marc Cohn and David Sanborn.

Lowlight: Infinite Ambient

Sticking with music of an ambient nature, the Low Light Mixes blog has used Mixcloud to showcase five year’s worth of mixes, gaining a lot of fans in the process. The most recent of which disposes with the usual themes, as creator Dave from Wisconsin says “there’s no special theme or concept other than these cuts are all excellent ambient tunes.”

From bedroom bloggers to one of the busiest DJs in the world, from Germany but residing in Miami, honorary-American Markus Schulz’s Global DJ Broadcast radio show has been streaming on the site for several years now. The June 27th show comes from his Ibiza Summer Sessions with a Gai Barone guest mix.

The Dub Wise Garage Collection is very popular amongst Mixcloud’s legions of reggae and blues fans, as it broadcasts a rich collection of live and unreleased music. Perfect for Independence Day is this vintage 1971 set by the Allman Brothers Band from The Warehouse in New Orleans.

Unfortunately the 4th of July falls midweek this year, but with the help of Saturday Night Sessions you can pretend it’s the weekend. Started up by Los Angeles’ DJ Reza, the podcast has featured mixes from the world’s biggest DJs and hosted stages at North America’s best festivals. Episode 99 sees West Virginia native AC Slater bring his twisted sounds to the sessions.
