Digital Britain

The UK government’s “Digital Britain” report is finally out today. The report proposes making all national broadcast radio stations digital-only by 2015.

This is good news for internet radio, and only offset by the government’s ongoing support of DAB radio – a technology which is becoming rapidly outdated and unused by most countries around the world.

We at Mixcloud feel strongly that this support should be channeled into technologies which have worldwide reach (like the internet), and encouraging more licensing options for startups in the online radio space. If the UK truly wants to become a world leader in the tech sector they need to embrace technologies which aren’t bounded by borders.
