The BPM Festival Podcast: Kiki

#BPM2015 is only a few days away. Pack your bags while listening to our new podcast from Kiki! He’s going to start off #BPM2015 at the celebration of 8 Years of Akbal Music January 9, 2015 at Fusion Beach Club!

Kiki was born in Helsinki, but has now found his home in Berlin.

Initial forays into making sounds with violins and pianos soon gave way to
the mechanical beats of hip-hop, mixed together with more popular sounds whilst playing at school discos before he was even a teenager. With such an early start it was no surprise that before he was old enough to enter a club, Kiki was holding down a weekly residency at one – Helsinki’s Tempo club, which was swiftly followed by another at the Smile club.

A move to Berlin in 1994 to study Architecture was the catalyst for Kiki to step in to the realms of a serious DJ. Impressing the legendary Masters At Work at a Marlboro DJ competition led to him securing gigs at Berlin’s three cathedrals of techno -Tresor, Pfefferbank and WMF. Gigs in Berlin and Germany were soon followed by a string of international bookings and the release of an infamous three deck mix for Sonnenhaus which led to de-bug worrying about the health of his fingers.

With his profile as a DJ growing it was two short steps to releasing his first record on Ellen Allien’s Bpitch Control label in 2001, who through a happy coincidence he had met when the pair were double booked to play the same DJ slot. Since then Kiki has become an integral part of the Bpitch family growing into a truly international artist, sharing his love of energetic and hypnotic music across the globe from Mexico, to Tokyo and making a little bit history along the way. Kiki has been the only performer ever to pack Ibiza’s Space club to capacity on a Monday.

With an output that has been nothing short of prolific, Kiki has released a number of genre defining records both as himself and later with partner in crime Silversurfer. Kiki was the first artist asked to put together a mix for the now legendary Boogy Bytes series, and has been asked to provide remixes and productions for labels as diverse as Bugged out, Playhouse and Crosstown Rebels where he had the honour of being the first artist released on the label. His debut album Run With Me was an international success, and led to the video for Shake Off (a collaboration with Silversurfer and Captain Comatose) being playlisted by MTV. More recently a collaboration with Sasse and his Moodmusic imprint led to the release of the excellent Grand Cru – a modern club classic already. However, as he has grown and matured, a yearning to explore deeper and more personal forms of expression in music, has led to Kiki working on his follow up to his debut album – Run with me. Without forgetting his roots in the club, Kiki has reigned back the short sharp thrill of 12” releases to concentrate on his second album.

And so the next chapter begins. Kiki is set to release Kaiku (which means echo in Finnish) in the spring of 2009. Like a musical calling card it combines all of the elements that can be only be learned through a life dedicated to music and musical expression. Where the space between house and techno and electronic music becomes blurred to the point of irrelevance and the feeling and emotions created by the music give you all the labels you will ever need. As the song on Kaiku says – No Words Necessary.

The BPM Festival Podcast: Sharam

Listen to The BPM Festival‘s new podcast from Sharam and get in the BPM groove! He’s going to help end #BPM2015 with a bang at Yoshitoshi’s Showcase (an official BPM closing party) at Blue Parrot Sunday, January 18!

From underground classics like Texi, Get Wild and Don’t Say A Word, to scoring international chart toppers, like PATT (Party All The Time) and The One, Sharam’s musical credits are as dynamic as his DJ sets. His production collaborations include artists such as Kid Cudi, Shakira, Patsy Cline, Chris Martin and Daniel Bedingfield just to name a few. He seamlessly navigates between hypnotic underground sets rooted in his rich history of house and techno, while entertaining younger dance enthusiasts of today with laser like focus and dedication to quality. His motto remains ‘entertain while educate’. His sound is Ibiza in Vegas. His style is limitless.

At Miami Music Week (WMC) 2014 he once again scored one of the most sought after records with his new outing ‘Tripi’ on Seth Troxler’s new labels inaugural release, garnering support from all sides of the industry. Tripi follows his rich history of seminal records like 2013’s On & On featuring the long time collaborator Anousheh that ended up being the #1 Miami Buzz record. He followed that release with “My Way” taking a more techy vocal approach — all part of his upcoming 2nd artist album.

During the Miami conference Sharam rejoined his old buddy Dubfire as the legendary duo “Deep Dish” and performed their first show in over 8 years setting the industry abuzz once again with their set as well as their new single “Quincy”.

And now, you can hear what we heard: Blond-ish, Clarian, and Seth Troxler’s sets are streaming now, exclusively on their Mixcloud channel. Enjoy.

The BPM Festival is proud to present the newest instalment of its official podcast series featuring DJ Sneak’s “I’M A HOUSE GANGSTER LIVE,” showcasing three hours of his signature underground house.

DJ Sneak returns to The BPM Festival 2015 with his “I’m A House Gangster” showcase featuring DJ Heather, Doc Martin, Jesse Perez, Josh Wink, Mark Farina and Paolo Rocco at Mamita’s Beach Club on January 11, 2015. Tickets are available while supplies last at

One of house music’s true pioneers, DJ Sneak has the passion and drive to keep house music alive. Self-proclaimed House Gangster, Sneak has helped shape the course of dance music since the early 90s; his early music influencing the likes of Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx and Armand Van Helden. His signature sounds – funky filtered disco-influenced house and tough, jacking beats – have revolutionized and redefined house music for well over 15 years.

Having begun his DJ’ing career in 1983, Sneak continues to be at the top of his game: non-stop beat bumpin’ sets are a one of a kind experience in the electronic music circuit, and a barrage of top quality releases over the last 20 years have culminated and just keep on coming. Meanwhile, “House Gangster” is a concept that was inspired from a hotline that in turn created a motive to inspire and increase followers specifically to house music, with “gangster” used in referenced to those who have that undying commitment and passion for house music, bottom line.
