How Host Tagging Helps Creators Get More Exposure On Mixcloud

We hear from creators using our community-building feature, Host Tagging, and how it’s unlocked more potential for their shows and profile.

Host Tagging is a feature that allows anyone uploading mixes by other DJs and musicians to officially tag those hosts  on those shows. This enables one show to be published to multiple profiles, and as a result gives those shows more reach and exposure on Mixcloud. This feature is available to all Mixcloud Pro users.

In this article, we hear from a number of creators about their experiences with Host Tagging. Maggie Tra represents Hà Nội Community Radio (pictured top right above), transmitting a range of vibes from Hà Nội, Vietnam. Saya (pictured bottom left above) is a UK-based DJ, producer, radio host and co-founder of I AM THE MUSIC, a platform for music industry professionals and music lovers. Dogzout (pictured bottom right above) hails from Rennes, France, where he makes music and hosts the Dogzout Radio Show on Oroko Radio. DJ Absoulute fronts the DJ League, a Germany-based community of DJs with a reach that goes around the world.

Read on for how Host Tagging has taken their profiles to the next level.

Hà Nội Community Radio – ‘We can give our presenters the love they deserve!”

Maggie Tra: “Using Host Tagging, we’re finally able to give our presenters the love they deserve. People can then follow them from our station’s profile. It brings us together and connects us full circle. Without our presenters we wouldn’t exist. We use it mostly to showcase them, tag them in our shows so that it comes up on our feed who they are and what shows they present. It’s definitely helped us share their profiles and their work. Which is very important to us at HCR.

Host Tagging makes our profile more streamlined and nicer to look at. It gives us all the info on one page without having to do external searches for hosts’ profiles. It saves time and gives more exposure. That’s a big plus for us. Most of our presenters still don’t understand the concept because community radio in general is super new to them. But I hope it makes it easier going forward. Thanks Mixcloud for having us be part of it and making the change.”

Saya – “I can spread awareness about myself!”

“Host Tagging has been great! It  helps me and I AM THE MUSIC spread awareness on the platform and give credit to the people and artists who’ve worked hard on creating the content. It’s truly a win-win situation for all parties involved. With my own personal profile, I use the Host Tagging feature to get credit on my weekly radio shows on Centreforce. In return, people get to know me via Centreforce’s profile as the host of that show. With I AM THE MUSIC, we regularly share mixes from our artist roster. By tagging them they get the same benefit from us as a music collective.

Instead of just being able to repost and favorite shows and mixes, the shows are automatically given more of a presence in the profile feed. It’s certainly given my profiles more authority and credibility. Now, you’re seen to be working with other influential parties in the Mixcloud universe. This can only be a good and positive aspect of it all. There’s less work on trying to get artists and other parties to share content. It saves a lot of time in terms of managing mixes and getting them out there simultaneously. I will keep using this feature with all of our I AM THE MUSIC artists as our community grows. But also for the benefit of my own artistic career. And of course, for the benefit of Centreforce, who will be able to benefit from my marketing efforts using this tactic.”

Dogzout – “Host Tagging expands my reach on Mixcloud!”

“My main motivation to use this feature is it helps me establish my credibility as a resident on a radio station. It allows my listeners or fans to easily find my shows, avoiding duplicates or reposts and it enhances my impact on listeners and expands my reach, as it functions as a sort of associated post. Using Host Tagging is  very straightforward. As soon as the show is uploaded to  the Mixcloud profile I’m associated with, I just need to claim that it belongs to me.

Host Tagging has influenced my work by providing a framework for consistency in my monthly shows on the radio. It  requires meticulous organization to ensure shows are delivered on time. All of this helping maintain an attractive Mixcloud profile for my listeners. Being tagged as a host on Oroko Radio has significantly bolstered the credibility of my portfolio among music producers, fans.. It also helps me bring in notable guests to my shows. and allowed me to contact renowned artists that I appreciate. It gives them exposure on a prestigious and borderless radio station, which is beneficial for both them and me. This will help build a community with the artists I directly collaborate with for my show. Thus, growing our communities together.”

DJ League – “Host Tagging allows us to promote our community!”

DJ Absoulute: “Our main aim  with Host Tagging is to support and promote all the great DJ mixes from our global members in the most effective way. Tagging  them as hosts in our shows is a perfect way to help  spread their content. A lot of DJs from many countries around the world are already members of our family and we also cooperate with a lot of  radio stations. As a result, we have our own slots for broadcasting the members’ mixes every  week. Our Mixcloud profile is our archive, where anyone  that missed a show on the radio can listen back. It is a great feature, no doubt!”
