With Carnival 2016 just gone, we thought we’d take this opportunity to highlight a small portion of the many shows we have celebrating the music of Brazil! A country renowned for its rich culture and musical rhythms, this small list alone shows the influence it has on music curators from around the world.

1. Gilles Peterson Worldwide, Carnival Música Popular Brasileira Mix

What’s a trip to Brazil without indulgently leafing through dusty records? In this mix, Gilles roots through popular Brazilian sounds from the 50’s, stitching together some of his latest musical discoveries.

2. Mr Bongo x The Vinyl Factory Guest Mix Brazil 45s

For rare originals, look no further! Mr Bongo selects the finest in Brazilian samba, bossa, funk, soul, boogie and jazz, pressed on 7″ vinyl. 3. DJ Tahira – Boiler Room Recife

4. Bahia Bass Showcase Carnaval 2016

If you’re not sweating, you’re not dancing hard enough! In this exclusive mix for THUMP, Telefunksoul makes an offering to Yemanjá, goddess of the sea and casts light onto the region of Bahia. Showcasing an hour of Bahia Bass mixed with traditional afoxé, and samba reggae.

5. Epic Vinyls from Brazil’s Sounds Like Jorge Mix

Brought to you by Sound and Colours, the exclusive blog for Latin American Culture. This mix boasts 100% vinyl and features an incredible selection of songs written by the 70 year old groove-master Jorge Ben.

Curated by French DJ Axel de Pontibrand, ZILBRA takes you on an upbeat, remixed journey through Brazil! Distinct sounds from Bonde do Rolê, Maga Bo, Sociedade Recreativa fill the mix with raw, killer beats.

7. Mixtape@Favela SelectaH, Brazilian Underground Hip Hop

Hailing from Portugal, Favela Selecta’s authenticity never waivers. In this mix, he roams deep to catch contagious beats from Brazil’s rough and ready underground hip-hop scene.

8. Sweet Samba Roots Carnaval Mixtape

Montreal based DJ duo, Tupi Collective present a full hour of 100% vinyl mix of Samba Roots from their vast Brazilian collection.

9. Jerk Sauce Brazil Special

Berlin Community Radio present Jerk Sauce Brazil Special. A full hour of high-energy 90’s baile funk, that presenter Anastasia picked up on her most recent trip to Rio.

In a series of 3 shows dedicated to Brazilian hip hop, Palomita uncovers the most popular beats thumping in Brazil.
