Mixcloud crosses the pond, opens new office in USA

Mixcloud, the world’s leading platform for DJ mixes and radio shows in the cloud, today expands from London to New York City.

With the US audience as the largest and fastest growing, the new stateside office will offer increased visibility and reinforce the digital radio platform’s vision to connect listeners to the world’s best DJs and radio presenters.

Available on both web and mobile, Mixcloud offers 10 million monthly listeners access to high quality audio content. Since the site launched a visual refresh less than two months ago, the platform has seen more than 10% growth in content uploads and traffic worldwide.

With the growing rise of audience involvement and participation as crucial metrics – rather than the historical focus on page views, Mixcloud is bucking the trend of declining attention spans with average listening length for a user on the site at 28 minutes.

“Industry experts and startups such as Medium and Upworthy are increasingly highlighting the importance of engagement. In a world of over-abundant information, we believe the winners will be those who focus on appealing to their audience in an authentic manner rather than buying page views” says Mixcloud Co-founder and US Director Nico Perez.

Founded just 4 years ago in London by former DJs and radio presenters who met at Cambridge University, the startup is one of the rare few to remain fully self-funded and bootstrapped. Driven by a passion to re-think radio for the social networking generation, the company has come a long way from it’s early days in an industrial warehouse on the outskirts of the British capital.

Mixcloud’s US partners include the publishing powerhouse VICE, luxury hotel chain Dream Hotels, and Internet Week New York. Increasingly used as a primary resource for brands to engage millennial audiences, the company has plans to grow both a brand partnerships team and a content outreach team in the Big Apple.

Mixcloud hosts the world’s largest catalogue of both current and archived radio programs and DJ sets – over 4 million shows that range from music to talk radio, with strengths in EDM, hip-hop, jazz, funk and world music. Top US content partners include global DJ talent such as Diplo, Jazzy Jeff and Paul Oakenfold as well as leading EDM festival promoters, Ultra Music Festival and Insomniac Entertainment.
