You may have noticed recently that services and applications have popped up offering plays, favorites, follows and comments in exchange for money. As you might expect we’re not particularly happy about this. We’re working hard to help listeners find great content and people who produce great content build an audience of (real!) listeners, not a community of fake accounts, spammy comments and content of questionable quality appearing at the top of lists. Some of these services have been using comments to spam you and we want to reassure you that we are developing new ways to fight spam – unfortunately there is no simple solution, as we remove them they find new ways to spam you – but we will continue to battle it. Thank you to all of you who have been alerting us to the accounts, we do delete them as quickly as we can.
As for the people who pay for these services and applications that generate fake accounts to add plays, favorites, follows and comments – we don’t consider this to be acceptable behaviour and we will be removing any uploads where this activity is found. In particularly bad cases or times when activity is ongoing we will remove accounts from Mixcloud. If the upload is taking part in a competition the user will be disqualified from the competition.
Let’s continue working together to keep Mixcloud as spam-free as possible and a place to find great radio and engaged fans.
