Legendary Hip-Hop pioneer and MC, Keith ‘Guru’ Elam sadly passed away early last week.

As one half of Gang Starr, Guru rose to fame alongside fellow crew member DJ Premier during the 1990s. The distinctive sound of Guru’s monotone rhymestyle over Premos hard hitting, jazz sampling beats earned a deep following amongst the hip hop community.
Guru also went on to release a seminal solo series of projects – Jazzmatazz, collaborating with many other hip hop artists and luminary Jazz musicians.

Following his un-timely death, DJ Premier has paid tribute with this “Salute to Guru” on his Hip Hop Nation radio show last friday:
