Mixcloud case study: Hervé radio show to promote new album

Radio is a great medium for artists to build deeper, more personal connections with their fans. It allows them to play and talk about their influences, their own music and what’s currently hot, with engaging chat and banter.

The likes of Christina Aguilera and The Eagles recently set up their own 24 hour radio stations. And our friends over at Diesel U Music Radio have been doing a great job of artist shows with the likes of the Black Lips and La Roux rolling through the studio to do one-off exclusives.

Mixcloud recently got together with super-producer Hervé to help launch his upcoming compilation, “Cheap Thrills Volume 1”, with an exclusive radio show hosted on Mixcloud. Hervé is a major force behind the recent explosion in bass heavy electro and house music and the compilation is a real who’s who of the scene, with exclusives from the likes of Jack Beats, Fake Blood and Radio 1’s Kissy Sell Out.

Hervé invited his label-mate’s Jack Beats, Fake Blood and Martelo to join him in the studio for 2 hours to host one of the best artist shows we’ve heard. They discuss their contributions to the release, with some great stories behind the tunes. Each DJ then goes into the mix for 15 minutes, taking it back to their influences.

The show was a great way to build awareness and buzz around the release before launch, attracting coverage on a number of blogs and websites as well as serious buzz in the “Twittersphere”.
