In addition to the top Cloudcasts and Cloudcasters, we’re going to be digging through the tracklists of over 100,000 Cloudcasts uploaded to Mixcloud in 2010 by some 25,000 Cloudcasters to present to you Mixcloud’s unique Top Artists and Top Tracks of 2010! We’re very excited.

Who do you think will top these lists?

1. Who was the top artist played by DJs and radio presenters on Mixcloud in 2010?

We’re going to give away a few Mixcloud tee-shirts to whoever can guess the right answers. You can enter by tweeting one of the following (just replace the ??? by your most intelligent guess):

BlackBerry Torch Winners Announced!

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

You may recall back in November and December we held a massive competition with BlackBerry Torch, Mixmag/DSI, Platform and Drowned in Sound.

The three partner sites created some top quality Cloudcasts on behalf of BlackBerry for your audio pleasure. Including exclusive content from the likes of Matador Records, Herve, Crazy P, Mount Kimbie, Africa Hitech and many more. You can check out all the exclusive mixes on the “Blackberry Torch Presents” tag station right here.

Alongside all this great content, the 3 partner sites ran competitions for both “mix lovers” (listeners) and “mix makers” (DJs) in association with BlackBerry. We are delighted to announce the winners.

Mixmag & DSI:

The mix maker prize (a BlackBerry Torch handset, an exclusive DJ set at a Mixmag party in London and exposure in the magazine) goes to Middlesbrough’s Disturbed Beats for a fantastic mix of jackin’ house and cut-up vocals.

Drowned in Sound:

The mix maker prize goes to DMAX for his wonderful journey “through moods and marvels” – soulstep to classic house and beyond. He wins himself a Pacemaker handheld DJ device.

The mix lover “sharing” prize goes to true indie music fan Albert Alksnitis from Nottingham – a BlackBerry Torch handset and £100 to spend in Rough Trade shops. Awesome.

Platform:

Mix maker prize goes to JWalk from Manchester for his expertly executed journey through jazz, soul and hip-hop – a very interesting and mature mix indeed. He wins a guest session at a future Boiler Room and some exclusive tees.

The mix lover prize goes to Jignesh Taylor from Rugby. He can expect a BlackBerry Torch handset, 2 invites to the Boiler Room and some exclusive T-Shirt Party x Boiler Room T-Shirts.

Phew! That’s a lot of prizes and a lot of lucky winners!

Big thanks to all of the partners involved in helping pull this together but most importantly to all you passionate mix makers and mix lovers for getting involved.

Keep your eyes peeled for lots more exciting competitions to be launched on Mixcloud in 2011.

Happy Birthday!

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Happy Birthday!

Next Tuesday, the 21st of September, will officially be our first birthday!
It’s been a whole 12 months since we un-leashed Mixcloud on the world and wow, what a year it has been.

We’d like to wish you all a Happy Birthday and send a special thank you to so many Mixclouders for all the Cloudcasts, comments, plays, favs, tweets, blogs, embeds and mentions over the last year – much love! We’re now looking forward to taking our first baby steps into ‘toddler-hood’ (?!) – this coming year.

There’s been a nice series of Happy Birthday Cloudcasts up on this tag channel throughout the year, including one from Paul Riley to Orsii for her birthday:

Birthday Mix For @Orsii by Paul Riley on Mixcloud

So, in order to celebrate and mark this momentous occasion, we thought we’d call out for some more happy birthday themed Cloudcasts. To join the party simply:

  • Make a Cloudcast – perhaps containing a few songs that you’ve discovered through Mixcloud over the last year or so.
  • Upload it to your Mixcloud account and Tag it “happy birthday
  • We’ll be picking some of our favorites and sending out some Mixcloud treats to the Cloudcasters behind them, posting the best ones here on the blog. Extra points naturally for birthday themed track-list, shout outs, some nice birthday card style artwork and a personal message inside of course x

All together now 1, 2, 3… “Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you…”

    …so, who’s first for jelly ‘n’ ice-cream?
